In April this year, China's producer price index (PPI) decreased by 0.6 percent compared to March this year and indicated a decline of 2.6 percent year on year, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics. The 2.6 percent drop constitutes the 14th consecutive decline on year-on-year basis and is the steepest fall in six months, reflecting ongoing weakness of demand. Meanwhile, China's PPI for the first four months of this year decreased by 2.0 percent on year-on-year basis.

Also in April, China's consumer price index (CPI) witnessed a year-on-year increase of 2.4 percent, while it was up by 0.2 percent month on month. The year-on-year increase is largely in line with the forecast rise of 2.3 percent.
