Xinhua cited authorities as saying that a malfunctioning part was confirmed to have caused a molten iron spill accident that occurred in a Baosteel workshop in Shanghai last week,killing two and injuring 13.

A municipal government spokesman said that investigators found that an L-shaped block component failed to stop a crane carrying molten iron,which then came off its tracks and spilled on workers.

The spokesman said that the cause of the malfunction is under further investigation.
