One of the world’s longest lasting light bulbs is now over 110 years old. Called the Centennial Light, this primitive bulb is located in Livermore, Calif., and is currently maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. But this is not the only one of its kind. In fact the 2nd runner up is a light bulb in Fort Worth, Texas and has been nicknamed the Eternal Light. Eternal Light was credited in the 1970 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records for being the longest-lasting bulb.

However this actually took place two years before the discovery of the actual longest lasting Livermore bulb. The glory was stolen and The Eternal Light moved down to number two. The Eternal Light was originally at the Byers Opera House and was installed by a stage-hand on September 21, 1908. However in 1977 the theater was knocked down and the bulb was carefully transported to a Fort Worth’s Stockyards Museum. And since its installation in 1977 the Eternal Light has only been turned off once, and that was by accident.
